MIS alumnus ‘hacks’ Yahoo!

ALUMNUS ANDREI Marinduque Navarro (BS MIS ‘05) proved hacking isn’t always a crime in Yahoo’s Open Hack Day held September 5 and 6 in Sunnyvale, California.

Navarro, along with teammates from Malaysia and Singapore deviated from their original programming ideas and opted instead to use natural queries on Yahoo.

Despite having job offers abroad as a result of the event, Navarro returned to the Philippines to work for the startup company, Halo Nine. He believes that there is great potential in the local development industry which, when tapped, could put the Philippines on the map of technological innovations.

BOx members jacked at Plevsem

BIOLOGICAL ORGANIZATION (BOx) of the Ateneo members Nerisse Isabella Siazon (IV BS Bio) and Leigh Nicole Siazon (II AB MEco) were robbed of their valuables in the Caltex station at the South Luzon Expressway on November 8, as the org was coming back from their yearly planning and evaluation seminar.

The back window of the sisters’ car was smashed and their bags were stolen, the sisters said. The valuables stolen included two laptops, cellphones, Leigh’s iPod, and some money.

BOx President Stephen Michael Co (IV BS Bio) said the org already submitted an incident report of the robbery to the Office of Student Activities as it was an official org event. However, the Ateneo is not liable in the robbery since it happened outside school, said Co.
