THE ATENEO Women’s Chess Team concluded the sixth day of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 Chess Tournament with a loss to the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs. The match was held earlier today at the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tech Gym in the City of Manila.

After beating the De La Salle University Lady Woodpushers and the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in their last two matches, Ateneo looked to continue their winning streak in their bout with NU. However, they were unable to topple the defending champions, suffering a 0.5-3.5 defeat.

In the first board, Ateneo’s Laila Nadera conceded points to Season 84 Rookie of the Year and woman fide master Allaney Jia Doroy. The next two boards also saw Ateneo’s Glesit Tatoy and Alexis Oseña lose to NU’s Kylen Joy Mordido and Jesca Docena. To close the day, Ateneo’s Kristine Flores took on Lady Bulldog Princess Nicole Ballete in the fourth and final board. Both teams had a tense battle that ended in a draw.

The Ateneo Women’s Chess Team look to bounce back in their next match on Saturday, November 26, against the Adamson University Lady Falcons. Meanwhile, the Men’s Chess Team will also be taking on Adamson on Sunday, November 27. Both games are scheduled at 2:00 PM at the FEU Tech Gym in Manila once again.
