Lady Eagles finish third overall in UAAP Season 82 Women’s Fencing

THE ATENEO Women’s Fencing Team took home third place overall in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 82 Women’s Fencing Tournament on Friday, February 14, at Paco Arena in Manila City. 

The Blue and White concluded their campaign with a total medal tally of one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. 

Women’s Epee Team 

Mia Esteban, Maxine Esteban, Robyn Lim, and Sophia Suson represented Ateneo in the morning event with a spot in the finals on the line against the University of the Philippines (UP). 

The Lady Eagles held advantages multiple times, but momentum swung in UP’s favor in the latter parts of the match, giving the Lady Maroons a 45-44 victory.

Women’s Saber Team 

Gabrielle Cabrera, Maxine Esteban, Alyanna Hernandez, and Jazmine Munoz suited up for the final event of the day, going head-to-head with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the semi-finals round. 

Smart play from the Lady Eagles carved a 12-9 lead before UST’s Andrea Lao and Fhaym Sarrondo blitzed the Golden Tigresses ahead. Maxine Esteban launched a late rally to bring Ateneo within six, but UST managed to see the match off, 38-45.
