FOR THREE successive years, the Women’s Lawn Tennis team has placed fifth at the bottom of the standings. This Season 78, however, the team has set its sights on rising above their past results and effectively returning to title contention.

Coached by multi-awarded player Jennifer Saret, the Blue and White have set their ambitions high this year, hoping to claim the gold for the first time in the Ateneo’s history. To attain their goal, the team will have to cope with the loss of Season 77 Team Captain Jessica Lagman as well as Naomi Riskin and Kat Espedido, who have graduated. The departure of these veterans could prove to be the biggest setback that the team will face this year. Jana Hernandez will assume the role of team captain this season, as she looks to act as the team’s vocal leader.

These young but solid competitors will join forces with Shanine Olivarez, Khrizelle Sampaton, and the returning Jodel Fernandez, who is coming back from a one-year hiatus.

Having expanded their training schedule from three to five times a week, the Lady Eagles will be better prepared than ever. “With everything added to the team this year, we can say that we’ve prepared well for Season 78 and we’re ready to put up one big fight against the other schools,” Hernandez says.

With a new season looming just beyond the horizon, the Lady Eagles will be ready to give their opponents their all during every single rally.
