Men's Fencing
Rising from the Ashes
by Laurence L. Fernando
BLADES AT the ready, the Ateneo Men’s Fencing Team (AMFeT) is setting its sights on exceeding their fifth-place finish in Season 86 and establishing themselves as true contenders.
With Team Captain Enrico Suplico returning to the piste for his senior year, the former silver medalist aims to end his career with the Blue and White on a high note. After dealing with a hamstring injury last season, he is expected to bag a medal in his discipline of sabre.
Alongside Suplico, Andre Agatep is poised to be a marquee fencer for the Blue Eagles. Having captured an individual bronze in the previous season, the veteran will be crucial in his team’s aspirations of breaking into the league’s upper echelon. Meanwhile, newcomer Iñaki Torres is also expected to make waves in UAAP fencing’s ever-competitive foil event.
With their formidable sabre unit and growing foil and épée teams, the AMFeT is primed to make a strong lunge forward. With these recent strides, the Blue and White’s aim of a coveted podium finish is within reach—possibly even the elusive gold.
