Igniting the Track
by Edge Torres
WITH A revamped roster, the new-look Ateneo Women’s Track and Field Team (AWTF) is geared up to ignite fire in UAAP Season 87.
For the first time in nine years, the Blue Eagles will be without their bemedalled record-holder Jia Kawachi. However, her historic run will undoubtedly be the springboard of motivation for the AWTF. Now, the herculean task of carrying Kawachi’s mantle rests on the shoulders of the young squad.
Fresh from copping her Palarong Pambansa three-peat in the 100m sprint, Krisha Aguillon looks to usher in a new era for the Blue and White, alongside rookie sprinter Francesca Cheng. Meanwhile, Kat Duavit, who previously played for the Ateneo High School Volleyball Team, is stepping into her new role as the lone jumper for the Blue Eagles.
Despite having big shoes to fill, the AWTF remains undaunted, as athletics legends Sean Guevarra, Ernie Candelario, Marestella Torres-Sunang, and Arniel Ferrera aim to steer the squad in their quest for gold.
