THERE ARE three things certain in life: death, taxes, and the Ateneo Men’s Football Team gathering a squad of top guns locked in for greatness. Despite the team’s semifinal exit last season, Head Coach JP Merida’s selection for UAAP Season 87 is more determined than ever to reclaim the crown, foretelling a campaign of jaw-dropping goals and shot-stopping theatrics. Leading this year’s squad is none other than midfield maestro Leo Maquiling, renowned for concocting goal opportunities. On the defensive end, Co-Captains Jet Dela Cruz and Artuz Cezar are primed to stave off any foe who dares to embark on the defensive third. Fresh energy also marks the team, with rookies Joaquin Collo and Marcus Arias hoping to give UAAP veterans a run for their money—Collo with his attacking versatility and Arias with his defensive IQ. Once again in the Merida Era, the many fans of the Blue and White will await yet another formidable season when the throne for glory will be greatly contested.
