Men's Chess

Sky's the Limit

AFTER A breakout season that led to their long-awaited return to the podium last Season 86, the Ateneo Men’s Chess Team (AMCT) is ready to vie for more. The stars finally aligned for the Katipunan-based unit as they broke their nearly 20-year-long curse last season with a historic second-place finish in the overall team standings. Individually, Janmyl Tisado and Paul Matthew Llanillo brought home gold medals, while Tristan Cervero and Team Captain Khalil Kis-ing added to the team’s haul with a silver and a bronze, respectively. However, Season 87 will not come without its challenges, with the team having to fill the holes left by the departures of Tisado, Cervero, and National Master Jasper Faeldonia. Along with new recruits like Knarf Batislaong, returning veterans Kis-ing, Llanillo, and Colin Chua look to boost the team’s confidence heading into the new campaign. Aiming to prove that they are here to stay, the Blue and White are ready to harness their talent and newfound experience, motivated to attain further glory.
