A Message from the Editors

CELEBRATING A CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE.

In 2022, the Ateneo community witnessed athletic teams that were finally given their moment to shine after an unprecedented hiatus. Each of the competing teams faced the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 with a rejuvenated spirit but an all-too-familiar tenacity. Whereas some fought hard to keep their dynasties alive, others rose to the challenge and showcased their brilliance amid mighty adversaries. By the end, the Blue Eagles brought home a total of three championship titles, three silver, and two bronze medals.

With the second half of UAAP Season 85 fast approaching, The GUIDON Sports looks to continue celebrating the triumphs, achievements, and even heartbreaks of the Ateneo. We remain steadfast in our commitment to Defend the Truth, especially as the stories of the athletes, coaches, and entire community unravel over this last stretch of the season.

This primer can only uncover a fraction of the commitment these players have put to hone their craft and represent the Blue and White. It is our hope that, with this primer, readers find themselves venturing into the vast and beautiful world that Ateneo sports has to offer. As you flip through the pages and read more about Ateneo athletics, take this opportunity to encounter the teams in a completely different light—one that features sports beyond just the field of play.

Editor’s note: Due to the pandemic, most sports featured in this primer have not been competing in the UAAP since 2019. As such, many of the pictures that were used in the creation of this digital primer were taken from The GUIDON’s archives.
